My wife and I love our new home!

Having moved into our new Partners in Building house almost a month ago, we've been reflecting on the experience of building a home with PIB. It's been a fantastically good experience from start to finish, so we'd like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation.

The design quality of our home benefitted from expert guidance throughout the process. Instances of this are too numerous to list entirely, but here are a few examples that stand out. When we were working on our floor plan, Daniel Cornwell, our sales person, suggested a design adjustment that moved a powder room so that its door was off the family room instead of off the foyer. This small adjustment--which we wouldn't have thought of on our own--makes a significant difference in the aesthetic appeal of the entryway to our home. Reggie Cowart, our builder, suggested a stone trim option that cost nothing but added to the beauty of our home's exterior. And Donna Previte suggested cabinetry and granite countertop choices based on magazine pictures that we brought in, resulting in an absolutely gorgeous kitchen at the heart of our home. We had excellent counsel on every one of the hundreds of design decisions we made along the way, and we appreciate the time and effort that Daniel, Reggie and Donna put into making our home the best it could be.

We felt that Partners behaved with highest integrity throughout the entire process. When it turned out that we had been quoted an incorrectly low price for a floor plug, PIB stood by the original price quote. When Reggie saw something during construction that wasn't exactly as we expected it to be, he fixed it immediately. In one case, he pointed out that a framed opening that looked down from the second floor to the family room was oddly shaped, and fixed it to be rectangular. This was a minor design flaw that only became apparent once built, and it would have created something awkward and unpleasant in our house. There was never an attempt to rationalize away something that wasn't right.  PIB's first response was always simply to make it right.

Keep Your Home Safe During the Holidays

Thanksgiving sceneHere are some helpful tips to keep you and your home safe this holiday season, from your friends at The Canyons at Lake Travis.

While you are at home:
--Store gifts and valuables away from view through windows
--Don't open your door to strangers
--If you have a house alarm, set it, and make sure your alarm company has your current contact information
--Keep your garage doors closed, and make sure your doors are locked
--Call the police immediately if you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood

While you are away for the holidays:
--Keep a few lights on so it appears that someone is home
--If you normally park a car outside, keep it outside as you normally would
--Check all windows and doors to make sure they are locked
--Sign up for Vacation Watch with your local law enforcement agency (Travis County sheriff's office 854-9770)
--Ask a trusted neighbor to collect newspapers and flyers left at your home

The Secret is Out!

The Canyons entryOn Saturday, March 26th, hundreds of curious neighbors and prospective home buyers descended upon The Canyons at Lake Travis for the "Sneak Peek" to discover what lies behind the gates.

Children jumped and slid on bouncy castles, and they were entertained by balloon animal-making clowns.  Families had their photos taken at the top of The Canyons by professional photographer Jared Tennant, and they were able to register for a free photo session with Wilhelmina modeling.  Both adults and kids alike enjoyed the delicious concoctions from Frozy's Shaved Ice, along with hot dogs and PIB cupcakes.  And to many, the highlight of the event was riding through the beautiful neighborhood on a golf cart, while taking in the views of the Hill Country.

Sneak Peek on March 26th!

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Partners in Building will offer a "Sneak Peek" of all of the activity that has been going on behind the gates in The Canyons.  Potential buyers and curious neighbors will enjoy surprises at every turn inside the community.

The Canyons at Lake Travis is Making Headlines!

Austin and Houston developer Partners in Building LP has purchased a 121-acre property for a new residential project near Lakeway.

The gated community, called the Canyons on Lake Travis, is slated for 57 homes on about an acre each, according to a spokeswoman. The developer purchased the property just south of Mansfield Dam near Lakeway in November through its partner Norwood Homes Inc. The land already has needed permitting to begin construction.

Houses will be built to suit, using custom offerings, but starting in the $500's, officials said. Partners in Building is currently completing landscaping, front gate features and common areas. The neighborhood is in the Lake Travis Independent School District.

Founded in 1958, Partners in Building has built homes in Bella Montagna, Escalera Ranch, Steiner Ranch and many others in Austin.

Native Plants in The Canyons at Lake Travis

Native trees in The Canyons at Lake TravisThe Canyons at Lake Travis has an abundance of beautiful trees and plants that are native to the central Texas area.  Sheryl McLaughlin, Native Plant Specialist and host of KLBJ's "Austin Gardener" radio show, recently toured the neighborhood.  She was able to spot great trees, shrubs and grasses throughout.

Regarding the trees in The Canyons at Lake Travis, "obviously, there are beautiful live oaks, but I saw an impressive stand of Durand Oak which is not common" McLauglin said.  "I also saw Shin Oak, Carolina Buckthorn, Redbud, Texas Ash, Yaupon, Mt. Laurel and Texas Red Oak." 

She added that there were beautiful strands of little bluestem, sideoats gramma, and bouteloua pectinata (common name "eyebrow grass"). Also, there is curly mesquite and lindheimer's nolina grass, blackfoot daisy, goldenrod, and much more.
